We decided to join my parents on a trip to San Francisco the day before the left :) We went to visit Lindsey, Carlton, and Dillon who were there for Carlton to do an oral surgery externship. I am so glad we went. The kids were great travelers and they loved playing with Dillon. It was colder there than I thought it would be, which was a nice break from the Las Vegas heat. We had a great time! I have over 200 photos, but I've included only a few, you're welcome.
On Wednesday morning my parents and Dawson came to our house and then we all loaded up in our Pilot and started the long drive through California, through millions of almond trees and hundreds of windmills. We made it to a little town called Tracy and spent the night there because we didn't need to get into to San Francisco until the next morning.
We drove in to San Francisco and picked up Lindsey and Dillon and headed to the pier where the America's Cup races were being held. My dad loves sailing and we spend a good portion of the day watching huge racing sailboats and driving little remote controlled sailboats. There was a lot going on the the America's Cup event there. Later we drove down Lombard Street and through China Town. We then walked around fisherman's wharf and pier 39. That evening we swam at our hotel pool/hot tub and ate out at Bear Paw Cafe.
We drove south to Sand City to go to the beach. It was quite cold but Dawson and Alexa were brave enough to get in the water. We then spent the day in Monterey. We had lunch at Pizza My Heart, which was so yummy. We went to a big park for the kids and drove along the beautiful coastline. We then headed for the Oakland airport because Dawson was going to fly home for his friend's wedding. But, his flight was delayed and he wouldn't have made his shuttle, so he decided to stay with us. We swam again that evening.
We decided to spend the day at the piers and downtown. Carlton had the day off so he joined us, it was also his birthday. We watched some more America's Cup racing and some kite surfing racing. We walked all around, the kids were so good and just fell asleep in strollers or wherever. In the afternoon we drove closer to the golden gate bridge. It was super windy there. It was pretty and majestic though.
We packed up and headed to the Oakland Temple and visitor's center. It was beautiful. We said goodbye to Carlton and the eight of us piled in to the Pilot and drove to Las Vegas. We got in after 9 so everyone stayed the night at our place and then they headed on to St. George in the morning.
